Many pastors operate on certain models.
There is the “seeker-sensitive” model, the “purpose-driven” model, the “emergent church” model, the “contemporary church” model, the “spirit-filled classic charismatic” model, the “small group” model, the “multi-site” model, the “missional inner-city” model, the “dream center” model…the list could go on and on.
Each of those models and the leaders who pioneered them have contributed so much to the Kingdom—I don't want to detract from that. But rather than copy the latest model that moves you, I suggest you let the Spirit of God direct your ministry based on the values, gifts, and people He's given only to you.
Think about these questions:
- What are you passionate about?
- What needs can God use you to meet?
- What are you uniquely equipped and called to do?
Even if you learn from another model, make it your own. Adapt it for your community. Improve on it. Tweak it. Take it up two notches. Don’t let following a model get in the way of following God’s lead.”
What we've learned:
Often, when we learn a new theory, see a new method, or experience a new movement, we want to join in and be part of it. And that's wonderful. But always remember that God has positioned you where you are, and when you are, for a specific reason. Don't get so caught up in following a certain recipe that you forgot to follow His carefully-made path for your ministry.
